This incident did NOT impact any Carolina Digital Phone services in Greensboro, NC has we have alternate BGP routes to alternate carriers.

On May 17, 2022 at 20:11 GMT, Lumen identified a service impact in Greensboro, NC. As this network fault is impacting multiple clients, the event has increased visibility with Lumen leadership. As such, client trouble tickets associated to this fault have been automatically escalated to higher priority.

As this network fault is impacting multiple clients, the event has increased visibility with Lumen leadership. As such, client trouble tickets associated to this fault have been automatically escalated to higher priority.

2022-05-17 22:14:54 GMT - The Transport NOC reports that the outage is located on a portion of the span, in which the primary and protected paths services traverse the same route through the equipment. As such, the damage resulted in protected service impact. Field Operations have been dispatched and will be on site to investigate with an ETA of approximately 23:30 GMT. The next update will be then, or as new information is obtained.

2022-05-17 23:26:20 GMT - Field Operations should be arriving to the fault site momentarily. Information will be relayed as soon as it becomes available.

2022-05-17 23:43:09 GMT - The Repair NOC reports that Field Operations has arrived on site commenced fiber light level testing. The Outside Plant Engineer (OSPE) has been engaged to assist with troubleshooting.

2022-05-18 00:28:13 GMT - The NOC reports that Field Operations tested the fiber from the other side of the span and identified a break in a splice case 6,200 feet from the test site. Splicers are being engaged.

2022-05-18 01:01:07 GMT - The Repair NOC reports that the splicers have been engaged, and an ETA of 03:00 GMT has been provided. The next update will be conveyed once the splicers have arrived at the fault site, unless new information becomes available.

2022-05-18 01:17:10 GMT - The OSPE reported that the location has been identified. It matches the same exact area from Friday where we had two tubes of a 108 Fiber cable damaged by a squirrel chew. Splicers and construction crews are heading that way. An ETA of 03:30 GMT has been provided. The next update will be delivered once the splicers have arrived at the fault site, unless new information becomes available.

2022-05-18 02:36:36 GMT - The OSPE reports that the splicers are on site, and preparing to drop the splice enclosure.

2022-05-18 03:06:06 GMT - The OSPE reports that they found the damaged area about 25 feet away from the original Squirrel chew from Friday night.
